It’s with great sadness that Littleborough Brass Bands Association announce the passing of Damian Jackson, one of the band’s longest serving members.

Damian was a talented musician and held most seats around the band; Principal Cornet, Soprano, Flugel, Solo Horn, Baritone, Euphonium, and percussion, as well as leading our junior band and teaching beginners. Damian was also band master for several years and a dedicated committee member.

For the past 14 years Damain has battled against brain tumours and after intense surgery on many occasions Damian always returned to the band room to be with his banding family and make music. Damian’s last performances with our bands was in 2024 where they won the Holme Valley Contest, experienced a successful Whit Friday and played at Brass at the Seaside in Lytham St Anne’s, before returning to hospital for more surgery.

Damian will be missed by all who played alongside him, but we will always remember his fabulous sense of humour, including his many festive ‘dancing hats’.

Damian’s funeral will take place on Monday 19th January, 2:20pm at Rochdale Crematorium. There will be a band playing at his funeral and the Association would like to reach out to any previous band members who played alongside Damian, to come and join us for his finale cortege.

We will also be playing a few of Damian’s favourite brass band pieces at the wake which will take place at Littleborough Cricket Club.

If you would like to play in this band, please contact Littleborough Brass Band through our Facebook page.
